Aaron's Week 13 Waiver Wire Picks

Every Tuesday, I will be bringing to light the best potential waiver wire additions across fantasy football. Let’s begin with some basic principles for each article and some of the qualifiers that will be used each week. First off, the minimum rostered percentage threshold that I will be using is 50%, so any player that is rostered in ESPN leagues above that percentage will not be written about (until near the end of the season when it gets harder to wade through the constantly thinning waiver wire.) Second, not all waiver wire additions are created equal and all are dependent on the roster you have. Each week I will be writing about players and the potential they bring to your fantasy roster, but I obviously don’t know who is on your team or what you may need in terms of roster construction. If I say a quarterback is the top waiver wire addition for the week, and you have Patrick Mahomes, that doesn’t mean you need to add that player to your team while dropping a potentially valuable player in order to do so. Third, I will frequently be using the abbreviation FAAB, which refers to Free Agent Acquisition Budget. This refers to the potential amount you might spend to acquire someone off the waiver wire if your league has that as a part of their system.

Gus Edwards- Running Back, BAL

ESPN Roster Percentage- 40.5%

While it wasn’t an impressive performance for Gus Edwards in Week 12, the numbers I want to focus on revolve around his involvement in the offense. Edwards had 16 carries, which led the team, and he was the only running back to have more than 2 carries. While Lamar Jackson will always be the true #1 rushing option for the Ravens, Gus Edwards will consistently have touches and is always a threat to fall into the end zone. It is very rare that this far into a season a starting running back is available on the waiver wire, let alone being available in nearly 60% of leagues. Edwards is worth a top end waiver wire priority and worth a 25% FAAB bid.

Treylon Burks- Wide Receiver, TEN

ESPN Roster Percentage- 37.5%

The last two weeks have been exactly what the Titans were looking for when they took Treylon Burks with the #18 overall pick in the 2022 draft. The rookie wide receiver has scored over 17 points in the 2 weeks since returning from his injury in Week 10. The passing numbers for the Titans are going to increase in the coming weeks as the team preps for prime Derrick Henry usage, but being the #1 receiving option for a team will always have it benefits. Burks could be another late season addition that carries a team through the fantasy playoffs a la Amon-Ra St. Brown last season. Burks is worth the top waiver wire priority and a 20% FAAB bid.
