AARON'S MOST INTRIGUING MATCHUPS
Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills
Coming into the year, there was a lot of talk about whether or not Josh Allen could take the next step and improve as a QB. Not only has he shown both of these things, but I believe he has truly established himself as one of the best young QBs in the NFL. He has led the Bills to a 4-1 record by running a high-powered offense despite the defense performing below expectations. The Chiefs came into the year as defending Super Bowl champions, with aspirations of repeating. Patrick Mahomes has continued his MVP-caliber play and seems to be doing so with relative ease. With both teams coming into Week 6 at 4-1 and looking to rebound after disappointing losses in the previous week, it’s going to be an offensive showdown. They both are top-10 teams offensively in points scored and top 4 in total offensive yards. Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are well deserving of their early MVP discussions, and I never thought that was a sentence I would be writing going into week 6 of the season. We still have a long way to go, but this is a crucial matchup that will have bigger implications down the road as we get to playoffs and the competition for the lone bye as the #1 seed in the AFC. This is a game that will keep me glued to my couch Monday afternoon, and I can’t wait.
Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Aaron Rodgers is back! Besides leading the Packers to a 4-0 record, he currently has 13 TDs and 0 turnovers all while being behind the helm of the league’s best scoring offense of an insane 38 ppg. This Matt LaFleur system has Rodgers looking like his former MVP self, and that should be scary for the rest of the league. Brady, on the other hand, has not looked like the Brady of old. Through 5 games, he's sitting at 12 TDs and 8 total turnovers. Outside of his 5 TD game against the oft-injured Chargers, he hasn’t looked great. I know that Chris Godwin has been injured and with limited preseason workouts available as a team, it may just be a matter of time until they begin to click. Both teams have greatly improved on the defensive side which allows them to have balanced teams. These teams are both currently atop their division standings, even though the Buccaneers are in a 3-way tie. I think that this matchup will tell us more about the Packers and how good their offense can truly be against the better defenses in the NFL than it will tell us about the Bucs. Overall though, I expect this to be a close match with the Packers coming out on top.
