Aaron's Must Have Week 9 Waiver Wire Picks

Every Tuesday, I will be bringing to light the best potential waiver wire additions across fantasy football. Let’s begin with some basic principles for each article and some of the qualifiers that will be used each week. First off, the minimum rostered percentage threshold that I will be using is 50%, so any player that is rostered in ESPN leagues above that percentage will not be written about (until near the end of the season when it gets harder to wade through the constantly thinning waiver wire.) Second, not all waiver wire additions are created equal and all are dependent on the roster you have. Each week I will be writing about players and the potential they bring to your fantasy roster, but I obviously don’t know who is on your team or what you may need in terms of roster construction. If I say a quarterback is the top waiver wire addition for the week, and you have Patrick Mahomes, that doesn’t mean you need to add that player to your team while dropping a potentially valuable player in order to do so. Third, I will frequently be using the abbreviation FAAB, which refers to Free Agent Acquisition Budget. This refers to the potential amount you might spend to acquire someone off the waiver wire if your league has that as a part of their system.

Justin Fields- Quarterback, CHI

ESPN Roster Percentage- 26.2%

Don’t look now, but the Chicago Bears are running an offense that helps their quarterback. Justin Fields has put together a quiet run of four straight weeks with 19+ points, which has him as the QB #6 in ppg over that stretch. The Bears have decided that they are going to use Fields in the running game, and he is averaging 69 rushing yards per game over his last four games. With six teams on bye in Week 9, Fields is an extremely viable streaming option and a potential season long starter for the home stretch of the fantasy season. Fields is worth a top waiver wire priority add and a 10% FAAB bid.

Devin Duvernay- Wide Receiver, BAL

ESPN Roster Percentage- 29.0%

Sometimes the best option is the only option, and that’s how it feels right now with the Ravens. As of now, we don’t have any injury update on Mark Andrews or Gus Edwards, but we have heard that Rashod Bateman is expected to miss multiple games which opens the door for Devin Duvernay to be the top option in the passing game. Rookie tight end Isaiah Likely had his coming out game and showed he’s a candidate to earn more receiving work, but Duvernay slots in as the expected #1 wide receiver. I’m not expecting to see Duvernay collect 15 targets, but he can definitely see 8+ and have a few attempts in the run game as well. Duvernay is worth a flier as a mid-level waiver wire priority add and a 5% FAAB bid.
