BRANDIN COOKS - WR HOUSTON TEXANS

Sit Him

As I’m sure you’re all aware the playoffs are here and as we head into the first week of said fantasy playoffs, you might be freaking out about who to actually start in your lineup. It is the point where all the people you picked up as streamers throughout the season that assisted in you getting to the playoffs are now complicating and bloating your bench. It might be hard to determine who to start and who to sit, but that’s what we are here for; we are here to assist you in those decisions. It is relatively easy to pick who you going to start, but when it comes to players to sit, that aspect gets a lot more difficult.

Because of this, I’m suggesting a sit ‘em player for this week. My pick might seem a little shocking given recent developments on his team, but making the tough decisions is what is going to separate you from a first round loss and a fantasy championship. My sit ‘em player for this week is also a stack on Aaron’s pick in that it is Brandin Cooks. I know It might seem like a wild pick, but as I said, the margin for victory gets thinner and thinner. Much like certain reality show competitions, the farther you get in the season, the harder the choice is to make about who to get rid of. Cooks is a good player and has had some great games this season. However, he hasn’t been performing to the level he needs to in order to be on your team for the playoffs.

Cooks gets a decent amount of receptions, but unfortunately for him, he doesn’t really do much with it. He either get a high amount of receptions for a low amount of yards or a lower amount of receptions with a decent amount of yards. He rarely combines the two amounts in the same game, and in terms of touchdowns, he only has three on the year. It was especially telling this past week when he was supposed to be the number one receiver on the team but was outperformed by both Keke Coutee and Chad Hansen. He was also taken out of the previous game briefly due to a potential concussion, which he has a history of, so that is just another thing to be mindful of.

He also plays the Chicago Bears, which aren’t the defense they were at one point in the season but are still pretty good when they show up. After a week where they succumbed to a Matt Stafford fourth quarter comeback, I expect them to tighten up on the defensive end. Cooks may very well have a decent game, but I don’t think it’ll be a worthy enough performance to have him on your team for this pivotal playoff game.
