IAN'S WAIVER WIRE PICKUP - WEEK 9

Matt Breida- Miami Dolphins RB

Early Tuesday morning, it was reported that Myles Gaskin will likely be moving to the IR due to a sprained MCL. Even if he doesn't officially drop to IR, he is expected to miss the next 3 games. That means Matt Breida will be the number one option on the depth chart and a steal at only 20% owned in ESPN leagues. The difficult part of this acquisition is the one Jordan Howard, who should also be seeing reps. I prefer Breida in this backfield for his big play ability. Breida is still one of the fastest players in the league and is going to see more passing down work than Howard will. I believe he is more likely to catch a check down pass and take it 50+ yards for the score. Tua Tagovailoa will also be playing in his second career game, and it's unlikely the Dolphins defense will play like they did this previous week. This means Tua will actually have to move the offense and hopefully that leads to a frequent amount of check downs to the backs. The matchup this week is also favorable since the Dolphins are playing against the Cardinals, who rank 28th against the run. If Myles Gaskin was a regular in your lineup, Matt Breida looks to be a good pivot for some flex work if you are not confident in your own bench. This week is already not a strong waiver wire week and should only be utilized to fill in streamers for week to week work. If you need a “long term streamer” for the next three weeks I’d look at Breida especially knowing what he is capable of.

*After publishing this article the next day Breida appeared on the injury list and by Friday was downgraded to out with this change Jordan Howard is set to start and is good for pick up.
