Allen Lazard/ Marquez Valdes Scantling - GB Packers WRs
We did it ladies and gentlemen! We made it through week one of the 2020 football season. Hopefully all of your fantasy teams went off and you came out the gates with the big dub. If you did, great job. Give yourselves a pat on the back and a pull out that everlasting gobstopper you’ve been saving for just such a special occasion and go to town; you’ve earned it but stay diligent because the next week is upon us. Things can very quickly go from entering a world of pure imagination to a boat ride down a river of horror. Speaking of horrific trips down nightmare tunnels, many of you unfortunately lost your first week matchups, adding more insult to injury in the already hellish landscape that is the year 2020. However, it’s time to shake off the bad juju and focus on the promise of week two.
Regardless of whether you did well or not so well, your team may need a few new additions. This may be due to many players getting injured as if they were playing for the Tune Squad in the first half of their game against the Monstars, or it could be that your team just absolutely sucked, and you need a change of scenery. Well, lucky for you, there’s a beautiful thing called the Waiver Wire, a place where endless possibility lies, and redemption is at your fingertips. You might be sitting there doing your best Barenaked Ladies impression saying, “It’s been one week,” and going to the Waiver Wire might seem a bit desperate. However, I counter that with the always ridiculous Weird Al deep cut in that I say it’s time to get a bit “Trigger Happy” with the Waiver Wire.
If you’re in the need for a new or better wide receiver, then either of the Green Bay Packers secondary receivers are good picks. Both Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling could serve your team well in the long run. In general, any secondary wide receiver on a team with Aaron Rogers has the chance to go off at any point just like they did this past Sunday against the Vikings. Both Lazard and MVS caught a touchdown and both caught 4 passes. MVS did get six targets to Lazard’s 4 and he did more with those receptions with his 96 yards to Lazard’s 63. Although Lazard came into the game as the number two receiver, I think the gap between the number three and number two receivers on the team in very minimal at this point in the season. You also have a high chance of getting them off the Waiver Wire because Lazard is only owned in 27% of ESPN leagues while MVS is only owned in 2.7% of leagues. I really like the potential both of them have especially given they have one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league who plays incredibly well when he is pissed off or in general. I expect one of them to break away from the other as the season goes along and if I had to choose, I’d say that would be Lazard. At this point though, both have pretty good upside and would serve as week to week flex players or at best, the back end of WR 2 possibilities.
